The Role

Dear Prospective Candidate,

Devonshire Primary Academy wishes to appoint a temporary Additional Needs Teaching Assistant (ANTA) at Level 2 to provide 1:1 learning support to pupils facing barriers to learning.  The post is to work with an upper KS2 child who has been assessed as requiring 1:1 support.  In addition to supporting this child, the candidate appointed must be flexible and respond to the needs of the wider team as appropriate and as instructed by their Line Manager.

This is a temporary contract and will terminate in accordance with the notice period when either: i) the child you are contracted to work with leaves school or ii) the child you are contracted to work with has their individual needs reviewed and the 1:1 statemented support is no longer required.  At this stage, we would hope that we are in a position to offer an alternative ANTA post, as we have previously, but this could not be guaranteed.

The successful candidate will be passionate, innovative and flexible and want to make a difference to the lives of our children.  They will fully engage children in their learning and make a positive contribution to the delivery of quality learning experiences for the children they work with.  The successful candidate must have relevant primary school experience and be able to demonstrate an understanding of children’s educational development throughout the relevant age range.  We would be interested to hear of previous experience in a 1:1 role, as well as any curricular strengths or areas of expertise/interest.

At Devonshire Primary Academy, every child is important and everyone is treated as an individual.  We place great emphasis on our ability to provide a secure, caring and welcoming environment in which everyone has pride in themselves and strives to achieve the highest possible standard of learning, behaviour and attitudes.  We endeavour to ensure that all children leave our care with a love of education and with the building blocks they need to become confident, life-long learners.

Our newly-designed curriculum provides a balance of core skills, enriched within a wide range of experiences and opportunities which enable all of our children to succeed, irrespective of circumstance.

Our dedicated staff, parents and governors all work together as a team to make Devonshire Primary Academy the best environment for our children to thrive.

At Devonshire Primary Academy, open methods of communication are well-established so that a shared responsibility for the development of the academy are much in evidence.  The candidate appointed will be joining an imaginative and mutually-supportive team where the creative ANTA can contribute to the Academy as a whole.  The successful candidate will:

  • Understand teaching and learning within the primary school setting;
  • Have high personal and professional standards;
  • Have high expectations of themselves;
  • Be willing to engage in CPD and remain updated on best practice;
  • Have excellent oral and written communication skills;
  • Be enthusiastic and hardworking;
  • Provide a high standard of social, emotional and intellectual care for young children;
  • Have the ability to work independently, as well as enjoy working closely and cooperatively as part of a team;
  • Provide support to the class teacher and assist in implementing the daily routine of a class; and
  • Be able to implement activities for children as required under the direction of the class teacher.

Devonshire Primary Academy is a happy, exciting and productive school with a wealth of opportunities for our children and staff. We can offer you:

  • The chance to be part of a closely connected, dedicated and hardworking staff;
  • A friendly and supportive whole school staff team;
